Pastel artist Carol
Ferony of Gulf Breeze is the winner of the JazzFest 2005 poster contest,
announced Larry Beall co-chair of the JazzFest poster committee. Said
Beall,” We were pleased to receive excellent entries for the 2005 JazzFest
poster. Ms. Ferony’s entry was chosen because it best portrayed a
Pensacola musical theme. Honorable mention went to the following artists:
Darryl Hooks, James Matthew Humphrey and Robin E. Stone. Titles for their
entries, respectively were “ Jazzin’ Sunsets and Cool Nights at the
Square,” Jazz Revival” and “ A Jazz Beach Fantasy.”
Judges for the Poster
Contest, all Jazz Society members, were artists Hazel Shiell, Bob Gray and
retired economics professor Larry Beall.
Beall remarked, “ It
was unusual that Ms. Ferony also won the poster contest for Great Gulf
Coast Arts Festival for 2004. We had a similar situation in 2001 when
Pace graphic artist Robert Towson won back-to-back honors with Pensacola
JazzFest and GGAF. It is also of interest that both Ms. Ferony and Mr.
Towson are repeat winners for the JazzFest poster contest. Towson won
JazzFest contests for 2001 and 2004. Ms. Ferony won for 2002 and 2005.
Also of interest, Ms. Ferony’s entries were the only pastel entries we
have had since the contest began for the 2001 JazzFest.”
Carol Ferony and her
husband moved to the Gulf Coast area five years ago from upstate New
York. She is a member artist at J. Adams Gallery at Seaside, Florida.
She has been the winner of other poster contests including Okaloosa on Ice
2004, ArtsQuest 2004 (Santa Rosa Beach) and Destin Festival of the Arts
2003.
